The answers below cover the points that come up in almost every first conversation, in residential as well as commercial work.
What is the difference between home automation and a BMS?
Home automation refers to automating a dwelling: a villa, an apartment, a riad. A BMS (building management system) applies to commercial buildings and adds an operating layer: multi-zone supervision, metering, consumption logging, technical alarm management and reporting. The protocols overlap to a large extent; the operating requirements do not.
Does home automation need to be planned from the construction stage?
Yes, if you are aiming for a wired installation. First-fix wiring is decided during the structural works: running the conduits, sizing the enclosure and the plant room. Coming in before the partition walls go up completely changes the scale of the works. In an existing building, a wireless or hybrid solution remains possible without breaking into the walls.
Wired or wireless home automation: which should you choose?
Wired (KNX) is recommended for new build: no batteries, no dependency on Wi-Fi, a service life of several decades, an open multi-vendor standard. Wireless (Zigbee, Matter, Wi-Fi) suits refurbishment and one-off extensions. Most of our projects are hybrid: a wired bus at the core, wireless for the add-ons.
Which home automation brands do you install in Morocco?
On the wired bus: KNX, with Zennio, Gira, Jung, Schneider, ABB and Basalte hardware, as well as Loxone, Control4 and Crestron depending on the project. Wireless: Aqara, Shelly, Tuya and Somfy. For network and video: Ubiquiti UniFi, Hikvision and Dahua. For air conditioning: Airzone and manufacturer gateways. We stay independent and choose according to the requirement, not according to a distribution agreement.
Aqara or KNX: which solution for my home?
Aqara is a wireless Zigbee and Matter range, quick to deploy, suited to an apartment, a light refurbishment or a short-term rental property. KNX is a wired bus, more expensive to install but independent of any cloud and designed to last for decades. On a new-build villa we recommend KNX at the core of the system and Aqara at the edge, on the points where pulling a cable makes no sense.
Does home automation work without an internet connection?
A well-designed KNX installation runs entirely locally: the scenes, the control loops and the wall switches keep working without internet and without a cloud. The connection is only there for remote access and notifications. That is a major difference from consumer solutions that depend entirely on a remote server.
Can home automation be installed in an apartment?
Yes. In an apartment the approach is generally wireless or hybrid: lighting, shutters, thermostats, smart lock and detection. The structural functions of a villa (pool, irrigation, gate, generator) fall away, but comfort and security remain fully accessible without major works.
Can an already installed ducted air conditioning system be controlled?
In most cases, yes. The major ducted and split unit brands offer gateways that bring setpoints and status into the home automation system. In particular we integrate Airzone for zone management, which allows room-by-room control on a single outdoor unit.
How are power cuts and generators handled?
The system detects the outage, switches to the backup source and restarts equipment in a defined order to avoid inrush currents. Non-priority circuits are shed automatically. This is a very common requirement in Morocco, and rarely handled properly in standard installations.
Does home automation really reduce the electricity bill?
It acts on the controlled uses: air conditioning regulated by zone and by occupancy, lighting on detection, water heater and pool scheduled during off-peak hours, shedding of secondary circuits. In commercial buildings, the savings observed on those items are generally between 15 and 40 %. In residential work, the effect depends mainly on how large the air conditioning share is.
How long does a home automation installation take?
Design and engineering take two to four weeks. First-fix wiring follows the structural works schedule. Fitting the modules, addressing and programming take a few days to a few weeks depending on the size of the project, then commissioning and tuning of the scenes are done with you on site.
Do you work on an installation started by another installer?
Yes. We survey what exists, rebuild the missing documentation and take over the programming. This is a frequent request: system in place, installer unreachable, no project file. As long as the installation is built on an open standard, it can be recovered.
CCTV, alarm and home automation: one contractor or two?
One, ideally. Bringing in a home automation specialist and a security installer separately produces two systems that do not talk to each other, two apps and two support lines. IBT handles IP CCTV, intruder alarm, intercom and access control within the same scope as home automation.
Do you offer a maintenance contract?
Yes. It covers remote intervention, updates, adjustment of the scenes after a few months of real use and an annual visit. For commercial buildings it includes monitoring of the supervision system and checking for consumption drift.
What happens if IBT no longer exists in ten years?
That is the right question to ask any integrator. We work on open standards and we hand over the ETS project file, the schematics and the complete schedule of equipment. Any certified KNX integrator can take over the installation. An undocumented proprietary installation, on the other hand, locks you in.
Which cities in Morocco do you cover?
Residential: Rabat, Témara, Harhoura, Casablanca, Bouskoura, Dar Bouazza, Mohammedia, Kénitra, Marrakech, Tangier and Agadir. Commercial and BMS: the whole of Morocco, including multi-site rollouts.
How do I get a design study for my project?
The simplest way is to send a WhatsApp message with the city, the floor area, the construction stage and the functions you want. You can attach your drawings directly in the conversation. We reply within 48 hours and the study is free.
